After suicide of transgender teen, community rallies to address bullying

Forty-one percent of transgender individuals attempted suicide compared to 1.8 percent of the general population, according to the Trevor Project, an  suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ youth.  After Bakersfield college student Hunter LeBaron committed suicide, allies held community outreach workshops to inform the public about common motives for suicide among LGBTQ youth, warning signs, and professional counseling resources. “I’d rather go to someone I know is trained or has experience in this, because I don’t think that any of our counselors are.”  Read more on South Kern Sol.
