Amid rape attacks, forum opens dialogue on sexual violence

A well-attended forum on sexual violence pointed to recent assaults on women and the crucial role that the community's response can play in helping victims and preventing future attacks. Commenters at the forum shed light on how a single incident of sexual violence can affect the whole community. Advocates from the Justice for My Sister Collective organized the forum, and pointed out remarks that seemed to blame the women rather than their attackers. “Very often in our communities we are questioned: ‘Why did you go there, what were you wearing, had you been partying…?’ As if that’s even a justification. It's not.”  Get more of the story on Boyle Heights Beat.Add a description…Participants in ‘Sexual Violence as a Public Issue’ community forum held at Boyle Heights City Hall.
