In Boyle Heights housing project, racial tensions have eased

For decades, black families were rarely seen in Ramona Gardens, the largest public housing project in Los Angeles. The great majority of residents are still Latino, but the community is evolving. Adults who grew up there speak openly of the conflicted history of the Gardens. “Blacks were not welcomed here because of the history between the blacks and Latinos.
