Solutions to the diversity problem in computer science

As a young man of color who had the opportunity to take numerous computer programming classes but didn’t, Rafael Johns discovered that he was part of a larger trend.  He went back to his high school and discussed this with the Advanced Placement computer science teacher.  "I think what we need to teach in middle school is a lot more of what computer scientists do, and not try to [turn them into] software engineers.  Let them have fun, let them see what it is, and we can teach them [programming] once they’re into it.”  The full story is on Youth Radio.
