Arvin college center has backers, but faces challenges

Community leaders and residents in Arvin, Calif., are calling for the creation of an Arvin college center.  A college center, rather than a campus that confers degrees, operates in tandem with an already accredited college.  However, the push for an Arvin college center may be a case of too little too late -- land was put aside for the center in 2010 but no action has been taken since. “A center would create a college culture, more jobs and make a huge economic impact,” said an Arvin city councilmember.  “It means that my city of Arvin and its residents can lift themselves out of poverty and break the cycle of farm work.”  Read more about it on South Kern Sol.Screen Shot 2013-08-04 at 9.46.39 PM
