Boyle Heights native is new diversity chief at Cal State Los Angeles

A native to Los Angeles' Boyle Heights district has risen the ranks at California State University, Los Angeles. Octavio Villalpando, the oldest of five siblings who grew up two blocks from Hollenbeck Park, is now vice provost for diversity and engaged learning and chief diversity officer for Academic and Student Life.  "It is part of my identity."
