Lorena Lara: Community organizer strives for change

Bakersfield community organizer Lorena Lara came to the United States when she was six years old, leaving behind her family home in Guanajuato. Now 26, Lara an organizer with Faith in Action, a group advocating for better health care for undocumented people. "My family was fleeing lack of opportunity, unsafe living conditions, unsafe community, and we all want our families to thrive, be healthy, and be safe. It’s one of the reasons why I continue doing the work that I do." The story is part of a series about young people making a difference in the Central Valley.
