First generation teen has a foot in two worlds

Amber Ly was born and raised in San Francisco; her parents, refugees from from Cambodia, hold to the rural convention of the whole family staying together until their daughter got married — but Amber had something different in mind. Being of two worlds caused some tension in the family. "'Is our home not good enough?' 'Why do you want to move out and leave us behind?' These are questions my parents pelted me with, when they found out I secretly applied to colleges out of state." Her commentary is on Youth Radio.
