Does your child have enough time to eat at school?

Eating less may seem like a good idea for the high numbers of overweight and obese American children, but experts say that when kids don’t eat enough to satisfy their hunger at lunchtime, they are more likely to consume unhealthy foods and overeat later in the day. According to a recent study, students that have less than 20 minutes to eat lunch consume less of their food, and are more likely to pass on the fruit that goes with their meals. The new research coincides with Michelle Obama’s efforts to require schools to offer balanced meals—fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grain—to students at lunch. The report is on Access Sacramento.
