Stockton's dream pop strip mall

In Stockton, California, 24-year-old city councilman Michael Tubbs says he is focused on changing the city's pattern of crime and violence.  The high murder rate takes a toll on young people there, where foreclosed houses line the streets. But a bustling night life is emerging for young people: music, from the storefronts of strip malls. Youth Radio, in collaboration with Stitcher, developed a single story multimedia site to tell a deeper story about the city, the youth and the unusual cross-generational partnership that sparked a new music scene.  Check the full story out at dreampopstripmall.com and hear the interview with Stockton's young City Council member - which aired on NPR - brought to you by Youth Radio.dream-pop-646x400
