An old sport of the city, handball is still thriving

Though not a mainstream sport, handball is popular in working-class neighborhoods like Boyle Heights, where mostly male Latinos play. Players relieve stress and get exercise through friendly competitions. The sport has garnered some negative associations, but it has loyal followers. “This game is handed down through generations. My grandfather played it, my father, me, my sons, my grandson."  Neighborhood players talk about their sport on Boyle Heights Beat.handball
