School garden nurtures academics

While an aggressive food and beverage industry is busy creating giant health challenges for children, programs like the Growing Together School Garden Initiative are fighting back, and helping to rebuild and illuminate health and nutrition for youth. The gardens also create an opportunity to combine food education with broader science. “I have noticed that my students are becoming much more aware of nutrition. I have heard them making comments to each other about what they are eating in the cafeteria and whether it is healthy.”  The full story is on Access Sacramento.
