Why does diversity spur hate in a diverse nation?

A Coca-Cola commercial that aired during the Super Bowl featured Americans of various ethnicities singing  "America the Beautiful" lyrics in different languages.   The commercial drew a backlash accompanied by Twitter pleas to #boycottcoke and declaring #wespeakAmerican -- expressing offense at the song being sung in languages other than non-English.  "I have found that throughout history, “different” is scary. Not everyone is so eager to accept change. Is this the core of criticism and ridicule that was sent out via social media after the ad aired?"  One youth commentator tries to unpack the outrage over diversity, on Coachella Unincorporated.twitter
