Rethink your drink, stand up to beverage industry

The effects of soda and other sugary beverages have become a genuine health crisis, especially among Latino and other minority youth.  The challenge of this problem is addressing the multiple reasons kids choose sugary drinks over water: cost, accessibility, lack of awareness, advertising and peer example.  Some schools have been banning these beverages and instilling healthier alternatives.  But, “it is unreasonable to expect that people will change their behavior easily when so many forces in the social, cultural, and physical environment conspire against such change.”  Johnny Flores, Jr., reports on the issue for Coachella Unincorporated.sodaphoto-480x360
