On Dia de los Muertos, Memorializing a Neighborhood

Edgardo's family moved to San Pablo from San Francisco's Mission District out of financial necessity, before he was born. Dia de los Muertos evokes bittersweet images of his family's culture, alongside the gentrification that drove them out of the city. "At the corner of 24th and York is my favorite panaderia, La Panaderia Mexicana. To this day I stand motionless before its plexiglass storefront, staring at the conchas, elotes, and the Salvadoran quesadillas." Richmond Pulse.
