Making sense of my interactions with police

Certain stories define Joshua Clayton's image of the police. He remembers hanging out in front of his West Oakland house with a friend when two cops approached them and questioned them -- asking why they were standing outside, whether they were on probation, or if they had tattoos. "My friends and I don’t trust the police. Police are supposed to be the protectors. When most people hear police, they think help.
