Anime provides escape for Coachella teen

Marcia Garcia first saw anime when she was seven years-old.  The animated and book versions of this mainstay of Japanese youth culture grabbed her, and since then she's become fascinated with all things Japanese.  She has drawn suspicions of joining an underground cult, and of avoiding reality -- and her schoolwork -- with cartoons.  But Maria says anime provides an important emotional and intellectual escape.  She describes it on Coachella Unincorporated.maria
