Litter: The Ecological Degradation of North Long Beach

Socioeconomics play a role in the presence of litter on the streets, says Kristine Clinton, a North Long Beach resident and founder of a recent group called the North Long Beach Alliance Against Litter (NOLOBAAL). In wealthy areas, tax dollars go to aggressive maintenance in the neighborhoods, whereas, "Here in North Long Beach we pay taxes but don’t get the red carpet treatment,” says Clinton, who says she never sees anyone picking up trash in the neighborhood. Read about how Clinton and a handful of her neighbors decided to take a vigilante approach to neighborhood cleanup, on Voicewaves.
