Richmond Has Fewer Police Officers Amid Budget Reallocation Talks

The George Floyd protests sparked a national move to defund the police and allocate federal resources elsewhere. Amid the protesting, police departments saw officers turn in their badges and resign from the force. Now, Richmond police are grappling with the changes to their precincts. “We don’t even investigate if somebody breaks into your car,” said Police Chief Bisa French. “We take a report for your insurance, but we don’t try to figure out who did it because we don’t have the personnel or resources to do it.” Read more at Richmond Pulse.
