Poor Air Quality In Richmond Increases COVID-19 Risk

COVID-19 is already a dangerous illness. Now, because of deteriorating air quality in Richmond, it could become even worse. “Some of the most health-harming air pollutants include nitrogen dioxide, fine particulate matter and ozone, all of which can cause respiratory and cardiovascular illness and other health problems,” said Boris Lukanov, a senior scientist at PSE. “Chronic exposure to air pollution is also linked to race and poverty, and new evidence suggests higher COVID-19 mortality rates among African Americans.” Read more at Richmond Pulse.
