Boyle Heights group sparks controversy with anti-gentrification push

An outdoor performance, new art galleries, and coffee shops in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights community have sparked opposition from groups who want to call attention to the ways gentrification displaces low income residents and people of color. Critics say the controversial movement, called Defend Boyle Heights, is harassing small businesses when its members could be pressuring lawmakers to enact inclusive policies. “Why aren’t we talking to policy makers, why aren’t we talking to elected officials about really providing resources for the community?” Read more at Boyle Heights Beat.
