What it means to have an autistic Muppet

The creators of the Sesame Street television show made a decision with profound impacts when they debuted a character with Autism. A Bay Area teen reflects on how meaningful it was to watch the show’s characters demonstrate how to adapt friendships to welcome people living on the autism spectrum. “Without dwelling on her autism, the characters normalize the situation, explaining that she’s a kid who happens to process things a little differently.” Listen to the story at Youth Radio.
