A deportation and the vanishing memories of my Grandpa

The fear of being separated from loved ones is constant for mixed-status immigrant families. Merced County high schooler Crystal Rivera’s grandfather was deported seven years ago, and she reflects on how losing him across the border continues to hurt. “It seems like the adults in the family try their best to not speak about him in front of the kids, as if it’d trigger something or put everyone in a bad mood.” Read more at We’Ced.
