Safety in Merced is not just a police issue

The answer to Merced’s crime problem isn’t simply more policing. Pointing out the number of rundown parks and streets without sidewalks or lighting, youth reporter Victor Seguin makes the case cities must reinvest in basic services to improve the quality of life of its residents. “At the root of the violence in Merced is the fact that city officials have allowed our community to deteriorate, creating the conditions that make it a perilous environment for residents.”  Read more at We’Ced.
