Food insecurity a growing problem in Merced County

For an agricultural area like Merced County, winter is a low season for jobs and wages, which increases demands on food pantries and other services. The number of people in need has increased over the years, and young people are among them, according to a recent survey at UC Merced that showed one in four students don't have the resources for enough food. “A lot of families rely on that [field] work for their entire income so when the work stops for the season, the need grows.” Read more at We'Ced.weced
