Herbalife customers keep buying in Boyle Heights, unaware of controversy

Described by some as a pyramid scheme and by others as a company promoting nutritional supplements, Herbalife still draws a healthy business in Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles despite a recent blow to the company. The Federal Trade Commission ordered the company pay $200 million to compensate consumers who believe claims they could get rich by selling its products. Youth media reporter Ericka Oropeza first wrote about Herbalife in 2013 when she wanted to learn more about the company behind the green three-leafed logo that had become ubiquitous in many Spanish-speaking communities.
