Walking the line: Reporting on protests and police

The Bay Area Black Journalists Association hosted a conversation about how professional and citizen journalists as well as community members can responsibly report on the historic demonstrations happening across the country. “What [under-cover reporters at the #BlackLivesMatter protests] came back and said – what I think we were most disappointed with – was that the protests they were seeing were not then reflected in the stories that came out the next day… The narrative becomes the broken window and the flaming dumpster.” Hear a panel of experienced reporters commenting on coverage of #BlackLivesMatter protests in a video by Richmond Pulse.
