Judge says discrimination suit against school district can go forward

A Kern County Superior Court Judge ruled that a discrimination suit filed by Latino and African American students against the Kern High School District can move forward. The expulsion rate in district schools was over five times higher for African-American students and three times higher for Latino students than the rate for white students. "[The Kern High School District's] discipline and involuntary transfer policies have created a pattern that has been nationally studied and described as the 'School-to-Prison Pipeline'... [And] those disciplined and transferred out of a general school setting are more likely to drop out... a reality more accurately described as the 'School-to-Nowhere Pipeline.'" Keep up with the progress of the lawsuit, on South Kern Sol.suspensions_500x279 (1)
