Community Health, Youth Voices
For the first time in the city’s history, community organizers, residents, and youth allies gathered in Merced to celebrate the legacy of Cesar Chavez, and to continue the fight for farmworker rights and healthcare here. Many of the marchers were youth and young adults — some of whom had traveled from other areas — who held up signs, United Farm Workers (UFW) symbols, and Mexican flags throughout the quarter-mile journey. “It was a dream of mine to have a Cesar Chavez celebration here in Merced. This year the right group of people got together and finally made it happen.” The event was reported by We’Ced.
