Green 2.0: How diverse is your staff?

A national campaign to make environmental groups more racially diverse is asking Bay Area nonprofits to share their diversity data with the public. It’s the first step in addressing a long-felt discordance. Polls show that people of color tend to be highly supportive of environmental issues, and are more impacted by environmental problems, from air pollution to lack of clean water, than are whites. But the organizations that fight for environmental responsibility continue to be white-dominated. A report by Green 2.0, a nonprofit formed to racially diversify the environmental movement, found that none of the largest environmental groups had a president, vice president, or associate director who was a person of color. “Diversifying the staff at foundations, non-profits, and in government will lead to better decisions and smarter engagement.” More on Richmond Pulse.
