Beyond tech: Oakland's young entrepreneurs

Businesses in the Bay Area don't all orbit around Silicon Valley's tech universe. Upstarts from Oakland youth are differentiating themselves from tech entrepreneurs: they're making and branding t-shirts, running education and nutrition nonprofits, and editing online music magazines that promote local bands. They also represent a larger trend in the state. Most business are small – 92 percent of all California businesses have less than five employees. And they are more community-based.
