Students on the true cost of community college

There’s a myth around community college: that it’s affordable to anyone. But for students whose parents can’t or won’t pay their way – tuition, living expenses, and textbooks – that degree can seem a distant goal.  Working students often go to community college, off and on, for many years. “To help pay for rent, food and transportation, students like me have jobs that prevent the majority of us from going to school full-time. And that means it’ll take us longer to graduate.” The cost of community college is complicated: the story aired on NPR, and was produced by Youth Radio.
