Water stations filling a need in Eastern Coachella Valley

Farmworker families living in the rural Eastern Coachella Valley know not to drink water straight from the faucet.  High levels of arsenic found in the groundwater here have forced residents to buy bottled water for drinking and cooking, an expensive and inconvenient necessity. But installations of clean water dispensing stations have started appearing at strategic locations throughout the Valley, offering families here something that people living elsewhere in the country see as a service to which they are entitled: free, clean water. "[F]amilies from the community can, for the first time, fill up bottles and containers with water that they know is safe to drink, without traveling outside of their immediate area."  Read about this long-needed undertaking, on Coachella Unincorporated.
