Holding onto myself while losing weight

By being "the fat kid," Derek Williams says he developed positive character traits that he would have missed out on if he was keeping up with the boys on the field. Now he's ready to let go of that definition of himself and lose weight while keeping his identity. "Being fat allowed me to have my own identity.  It was my way of saying, 'I'm not conforming to the typical image of a body-conscious teenager'... I've come to realize I can still be the biggest personality in the room, even if I'm slim." His perspective was on Youth Radio.
