The changing face of Hmong youth: body ideals collide

Cultures and values vary around what is considered a healthy weight, especially for girls. Fresno high school student Mai Chong Vang tells her story of reconciling her self-image with two cultures that promote opposing ideal body types.  Both Hmong and American perspectives made her who she is, but she is moving beyond the stereotypes of both cultures to gain self-acceptance.  Her commentary  aired on  KVPR’s Valley Edition and is online at The Know.hmong
