Teen pregnancy in South Kern

Recognizing that teen pregnancy is increasingly common in their community, young people in South Kern used photography to unveil an intimate view of the lives of teen parents.

This is one segment of a photo documentary project by ten teens from the Greenfield neighborhood of Bakersfield, Arvin, and Lamont (in Kern County) featuring the top health-related stories that they wanted to develop: teen pregnancy; air quality & related health issues, such as asthma; and unsafe parks. Partners were The Dolores Huerta FoundationThe Central California Obesity Prevention Program and Venice Arts, an arts organization which coordinates an 8-community participant-documentary project, Picturing Health, covering diverse areas of Southern and Central California.
