Kern County sued over alleged gerrymandering

A national civil rights organization has filed a lawsuit against Kern County, citing violations of the 1965 Federal Voting Rights Act. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund filed the suit on behalf of Latino citizens in Kern County, saying Latinos are underrepresented and challenging redistricting decisions by the county's Board of Supervisors that plaintiffs say are intended to dilute the Latino vote. "The growth of the Latino population in Kern County warrants additional representation of Latino-preferred candidates on the Board of Supervisors." The full story is on South Kern Sol.latinos
